It’s official. According to broadway.com -Fantasia Barrino will assume the role of Celie in the Broadway production of The Color Purple on April 10 for a six-month run. The widely expected announcement was made during the February 22 telecast of American Idol, on which she sang Celie's big final song, "I'm Here."-
I watched the video on youtube… and I must say, it’s a different Celie, but I want to see it, being a fan of Tasia AND the Show. So I’m thinking that I will be making the trek to the city sometime after school lets out. WHO’S WITH ME?
Also according to Broadway.com… I’m late on this too,
Michelle Williams, Broadway Veteran, and former Destiny’s Child member, will be playing the role of Shug Avery on the National Tour of the Color Purple which kicks off in Chicago on April 17. I wonder if she is going to cut her hair for the role? Or do the nude scene full out…
Not gonna lie… I want to see both of them in their respective shows. If only I had some money.
In other late Color Purple news… Elisabeth Wither's album is out, and I really want it. She was the original Shug on Broadway. She is GEORGEOUS. Shit you not. I was rendered speechless when I met her. All I could say was “You’re. So. . . Bea-u-ti-ful.” Her album is called “It Can Happen to Anyone,” preview it on Amazon.com. Then cop it. Support us.
